Hi, I'm Susan Short.
I'm a Midlife Health and Behavioural Change Coach working with men and women who are performing at a high level — but running on empty underneath. My qualifications span nutrition, health coaching, personal training, Pilates and run coaching, and before this, I spent years in corporate project management and finance. That combination matters — I understand both the science and the reality of a demanding professional life.
I work with individuals navigating burnout, hormonal change, body changes and a shifting sense of identity — and with organisations that understand supporting their people at this life stage is both a wellbeing and a performance imperative.
I use a method I developed called The Connected Thread Method — because most approaches to midlife health treat the symptoms in isolation. A nutrition plan here, a stress management workshop there, a fitness programme that doesn't account for where your hormones actually are. Each thread addressed separately, none of them held together.
The Connected Thread Method is built on the premise that your metabolic health, your stress response and your sense of identity are not separate. They are all connected. What actually happens in the Lifestyle Assessment?
It's a relaxed 15-minute conversation — no pitch, no pressure. We'll look at where you are right now, what's getting in the way, and whether The Connected Thread Method is the right next step for you. You'll leave with clarity either way.
What if I don't have time for this right now?
That's usually a sign this is exactly the right time. The programme is built around your real life — structured sessions that work within a demanding schedule, not around a perfect one. If you're running on empty, adding more to your plate isn't the answer. Building the capacity to handle what's already there is.
I've tried other approaches before and nothing has stuck. Why would this be different?
Most approaches address one thing — nutrition, or mindset, or exercise — and wonder why the results don't hold. The Connected Thread Method works across physiology, environment, psychology and direction at the same time, in the right sequence. It's not that you failed the other approaches. They weren't built for the full picture.
How do I know this will work for me?
The Lifestyle Scorecard is the best starting point — it maps where you actually are across the key areas before we talk. From there, the work is built around your physiology, your hormones, your schedule and your goals. There's no one-size-fits-all here.
Are you a nutritionist, a personal trainer, or a health coach?
All three — and that combination is the point. My qualifications span nutrition, fitness, Pilates and health coaching, with a background in corporate project management and finance before this. Midlife rarely arrives as one neat problem, and a method that only addresses one part of it will only ever produce partial results. The Connected Thread Method is designed to work across all of them, in the right sequence. Where something falls outside my scope, I'll refer you to your GP or the appropriate health professional — that collaboration is built into how I work.
I've worked with other practitioners on some of these things. How is this different?
Individual specialists are absolutely the right call for specific clinical needs — and where that's relevant, I work alongside your GP or health team, not instead of them. The difference here is integration. Most people at this life stage aren't unwell enough to be referred anywhere, but they're not thriving either. This method connects the dots between your metabolic health, your stress response and your sense of direction — so the changes actually hold.
Is this just for women?
No — it's designed for both men and women, which is still uncommon in this space. Men navigating andropause, metabolic shifts and burnout often find very little that speaks to them directly. The hormonal context and some of the psychology differ, and that's built into how we work together.
